Environmentally friendly decking – What are we doing?

Mayfield Sustainable Decking Blog Post

Whilst Mayfield is committed to being the most trusted supplier of decking and sundeck accessories, we are also as committed as ever to ensuring we’re creating sustainable decking and using recycled and responsibly sourced materials wherever possible.

Recycled materials in decking decrease the demand for new materials to be created

Our materials are made from up to 80% recycled raw materials during manufacturing which, of course, does not alter the quality we provide to you due to these materials carrying the same structural benefits. We’re committed to using recycled materials in decking in order to reduce the harmful disruption and damage being done to the natural world by lowering the demand for new plastics to be created. This, in turn, will reduce the potential for waste products used in plastic creation to find its way into the atmosphere or oceans. We continue to strive to reduce our impact on the environment by working towards creating the most sustainable decking as possible.

Sourcing responsible raw materials

Mayfield uses FSC timber to create substructures on our decks. The FSC or Forest Stewardship Council runs a global certification system allowing consumers to identify, purchase and use wood, paper and other forest products produced from well-managed forests. Using this timber is another step in creating environmentally friendly decking because timber locks away Carbon for long periods of time. In effect, it’s virtually carbon neutral. When purchasing a Mayfield Sundeck you can be assured that we hold environmental responsibility in the highest order right through our supply chain to manufacturing. We’re always striving to make the most environmentally friendly decking of the very best quality and ‘Green’ credentials.

It’s not just sustainable decking

As well as our decking, we’re also ensuring our other products are as environmentally friendly as possible. For example, our Wash Bomb – created to safely remove grime and grease is completely biodegradable and solvent free.
