A Catch up With Wild Wood of Mayfield

Balcony decking project with glass balustrades and millboard decking

Mayfield work with several trusted suppliers across the UK. We only work with businesses who share our values and are experts in their field. That’s why we’re excited to bring you a new series of blogs to get to know Mayfield more.

Wild Wood of Mayfield are our Approved Supplier covering Sussex, Surrey, Essex, Medway and Kent. It’s a huge area and they have a strong team of deck designers and fitters working closely with us to deliver our quality products.

Simon Ritchie and Dan Endean (Directors of Wild Wood of Mayfield) have been leading their team to fit decking and balustrade systems for 12 years. They have been part of Mayfield for 4 years. Simon and his lifelong friend Dan started the business, after studying carpentry. They took interest in composite decking and began working with two industry products, Millboard Decking and Balconette Glass Balustrades in 2012.

Deciding that we wanted to work with Wild Wood Installations was easy. We saw what they were doing with composite decking and loved how they were working with different products to deliver unique decking designs for residential homes. Straight away, we saw something in Wild Wood Installations that we knew needed to be part of Mayfield. Since then, they have worked alongside Mayfield to install beautiful decks on parks and residential properties across the South East Coast.

Wild Wood Installations are an independent, family-run business. Simon and Dan have been friends since they were at nursery, following each other into carpentry which is how Wild Wood Installations came to be. The two families have known each other for decades and now work alongside each other to keep operations, installations and manufacturing running smoothly.

It really is an incredible story, and one that Mayfield are proud to be a part of. Who better to tell it than Simon himself? We caught up with him last month to get the inside scoop on Wild Wood of Mayfield.

How it’s Going

Wild Wood of Mayfield have had a busy year, despite everything that’s happened. One of Simon’s favourite projects of 2020 was a two-story deck built with Hampton deck boards. It was quite an exciting one, taking 8 weeks from design to installation and requiring a huge crane to get materials over the house.

Last year, Wild Wood of Mayfield won more big contracts with new park groups and installed some very unique decking projects. They didn’t have to change direction because of the pandemic at all, if anything they were busier. The team were glad to get back to work after the lockdown, and with so many orders they completed a year’s worth of work in 6 months. A massive credit to the whole Wild Wood team.

Simon thinks people have saved a bit of money throughout the lockdown. They’re not planning holidays or going out and they’ve got more time to research and plan while they’re at home. It’s because of this that he thinks Wild Wood of Mayfield have had such a busy year along with their ever-growing reputation in the industry. People aren’t allowed to go anywhere, or at least it’s very difficult, so they’re sitting at home thinking about how to improve their home surrounding. They want to create their own safe outdoor spaces with decking and hot tubs.

Plans for the Future

There’s no doubt that Wild Wood of Mayfield has another busy year ahead of them. They’re already working on a new development in Dover, installing balustrades on a new block of flats and residential composite decking spaces.

As we come out of lockdown, they have seen a huge amount of work come through in recent weeks compared to the weeks before. The time that they have spent building relationships with park owners is really paying off. They are on-site at Combe Haven Hastings, and Allhallows Kent every week. Haven are proud to be partners with Mayfield and it’s great to work together to create stunning decks across their parks.

The work that they do in holiday parks is amazing, but we love the unique concepts that they install at residential properties as well. We’ve been sharing all of their projects over on Instagram and Facebook, so don’t forget to keep an eye out for any updates.

Overall, it’s been great having Simon and Wild Wood joining Mayfield. It’s fantastic that we both share the same values, and we’ve loved watching them grow as a recommended supplier. We can’t wait to see what they do next.
