Meet Modway: Installing Mayfield Decking From the Scottish Highlands to Glasgow Town Centre

Modway

Mayfield are a family through and through. From our team based at our Poole HQ to our UK-wide decking installers, we strive to deliver a high-quality, professional service. After all, that is the Mayfield way.

We’re really proud of our network of approved suppliers. The last year has been different and we haven’t been able to host our dealer meeting but that hasn’t stopped any of them from pulling out all the stops. We’ve seen some fantastic, bespoke projects being installed up and down the country and we think it’s time we introduced you to the people behind the Sundecks.

This month the spotlight is on Modway, approved suppliers of Mayfield decking based up in Scotland. They’re very busy installing Sundecks across the whole country at the moment. People are spending more time at home and, with the money they are saving from holidays and evenings out, a lot of them are reconsidering their outdoor living area. Of course, a luxurious new Sundeck is first on the list.

Davie launched Modway in 2010 and now has a team of six traditional tradesmen using modern materials. While Mayfield decking is a big part of their business, it’s not all this expert team can do. From joinery to kitchen fittings in residential and commercial properties, not forgetting holiday homes and static caravans, Modway are kept on their toes.

We’re happy to be able to share a bit about Davie and Modway’s story. Since our very first meeting at the Hull Caravan Show, we continue to be impressed with the work that this team does. Over the years, our businesses have grown together and we think you’ll love Modway’s story…

Where It Started

Davie is a joiner by trade. He used to work with his local council on different projects including window and door fittings and decking installation. After several years in a senior position, Davie decided it was time to do his own thing.

In October 2010, Davie left his role at the council. One month later, in November, he set up Modway. And a month after that, just before Christmas, Mike presented him with a contract to join Mayfield as one of our approved suppliers. Eleven years later, Modway is still part of Mayfield and we’ve never looked back.

Modway and Mayfield have grown together and we celebrate each other’s achievements. As we’ve updated and upgraded our product range and manufacturing processes, Modway have been there to give their input and suggestions.

The team travels all over Scotland, from their HQ in Kilmarnock right up to the highlands. They install Mayfield decking at holiday parks, residential and commercial properties and are on hand to help you design bespoke Sundecks with a full range of decking accessories.

What’s more, they offer joinery services, kitchen fittings and a complete collection of recycled furniture. Is there anything Modway can’t do?

How It’s Going

One of the things that we love about Modway is their support for our environmental pledge. As many of you know, Mayfield are determined to lead the way in sustainable decking. Modway supply and install the Hampton and Focus range, which is 100% recyclable and made using 80% recycled materials.

They’re also proud suppliers of Marmax recycled furniture. They manufacture a full range of outdoor furniture and equipment from recycled milk bottles. Davie told us that Modway have seen an uptick in enquiries for this kind of thing. He believes it’s because people are keen to move away from timber which is something we’re very proud to support.

Modway are leading the way for sustainable outdoor living in Scotland, but they’re also doing some pretty impressive work with SSL Stairlifts. Having now invented three uPVC platforms that work with SSL Stairlift’s range, Modway have been hired by the local council to install disabled access ramps in properties throughout East Ayrshire.

Modway are always looking to diversify. Just like Mayfield, they want to offer more than standard Sundecks. Last year, the biggest change to the business was the demand for domestic decking work. When it comes to caravan parks, often the decks are limited by space or budget. With residential decking, there is a lot more freedom to design something completely unique.

To help their customers visualise these bespoke projects, Modway offer 3D walk-through designs with any new proposal. Customers get the opportunity to see their Sundeck, they can even see what it feels like to walk across it. Understanding that their products are high-end, Davie thinks it’s important to show people what they’re getting before asking them to invest. After all, a Mayfield deck is built to last so it has to be perfect.

One of the things that set them apart from the rest is their quality of customer care. From day one, Davie and his team will be there to answer your questions and talk you through your project. The team embarked on a 5+ hour trip from Kilmarnock to a town close to the Isle of Skye the day after receiving an enquiry for residential decking. That is just one example of how Modway go above and beyond for their customers.

What’s Next

The future of decking is here. Modway are currently working on something really exciting. Later this year they’re launching a one-stop-deck-shop. This online platform will allow users to input the size of their deck and purchase all of the components needed to create that project.

The new website will make it much easier for people looking to DIY their Sundecks, as they’ll be able to find all of the elements they need in one place. Of course, you will be able to book Modway to fit your deck if you aren’t installing it yourself.

So, as well as manufacturing and installing Mayfield decking… Modway are also going to be selling it as well.

This is all happening alongside the day-to-day running of Modway… and they’ve got a lot going on. With enquiries coming in from hotels, businesses and councils and an increase in domestic decking work they’ve got a busy year ahead.

They’ve also got more decks being installed at their favourite parks, Craig Tara, Cloch Caravans and Rosneath Castle Park. Three amazing parks with amazing views across different parts of Scotland.

A couple of big projects have come their way recently. At the moment, Davie and the team are waiting to hear whether or not they’ve won the jobs. Based on the quality of work we’ve seen, the teams’ passion and determination and Modway’s level of customer care, we’re sure they’ll do a fantastic job.
